Adult Modern Dance Classes

CoMo Dance offers modern dance classes & complementary techniques for every level of adult dancer. If you're interested in trying dance for the first time or returning to dance after taking a break, please join us for our adult classes. Contact us with any questions.

DOWNTOWN LOCATION: Galbreath Pavilion: Studio #4
39 E. State Street, Columbus, OH 43215 — Ohio Theater basement (map).

Enter on the East side of the building near Columbus Commons. At the security desk, proceed downstairs to the last studio on your right.

PARKING: Parking is available at street meters along State St. If those are full, more parking is available at street meters on Town St. The meters are enforced in the evenings, but they do take credit cards! Alternatively, parking is available at Columbus Commons Parking Garage off 3rd or Rich Streets or in Statehouse Parking Garage off 3rd Street.

DETAILS: Schedule is subject to change. Class purchases are valid only for the date/session specified. Classes that do not meet our minimum enrollment will be canceled, attendees will be notified, and a full session refund will be issued.

WHAT TO WEAR: All of our modern classes are done in barefeet, so no need to buy shoes! For Conditioning, tennis shoes are recommended. Comfortable exercise clothing is fine! Most adults wear a tank top and exercise pants/leggings.

SEPTEMBER & OCTOBER SCHEDULE

FALL: Adult Dance Classes

Fall classes for CoMo Dance will begin following labor day. We hope you'll enjoy our new class format. Our class sessions will now culminate in an informal performance opportunity for all dancers.

SESSION 1 - September 5th - October 20th
CLASS PERFORMANCE: Saturday, October 21st
at 11:30am in Galbreath Pavilion, Studio #1. 39 E State St.

The class performance will be an informal showing by all CoMo Dance Classes. The event will be open to friends & family FREE of charge. Dancers will determine costumes collectively as a class, based on a color or style already in their closets - no need to purchase anything!

OPEN MODERN (All levels) with Megan Davis Bushway
TUESDAYS, 7:30-8:30pm (6-Week Session)
Fall Session #1: 9/5, 9/12, 9/19, (no class 9/26), 10/3, 10/10, 10/17
Downtown: Galbreath Pavilion, 39 E State St.
Throughout this open-level modern series, we will investigate how fundamental patterns in the body support dynamic movement. Using Bartenieff's concepts of connectivity as a guide, we will practice floor work, improvisation, and progress to standing exercises. Together, we will find efficient ways to travel, fall, and roll, culminating into phrase work that engages the whole body moving in space. Class will culminate in an informal performance opportunity on Saturday, 10/21 from 11:30am-12:30pm in Studio #1. 

6-SESSION COST: $60
(Minimum class size = 5 students)

DANCE COMPOSITION WORKSHOP (All levels)
SATURDAYS, 9/16 & 9/23 from noon-2pm. SATURDAY, 10/21 from 10-11am.
Downtown: Galbreath Pavilion, 39 E State St.
Create your first work as a dance choreographer, or explore new ways to approach your existing choreography processes! In this 3-session workshop for adult dancers of all levels, learn skills and approaches for composing a dance work. Columbus Modern Dance Company director, Laura Puscas, will start with a short warmup and basis of modern dance vocabulary. Movement will progress into guided exercises and inspiration for generating movement. The workshop will culminate in the creation of our class's own choreography to be performed on 10/21 at the Session Performance. 

3-SESSION COST: $25
(Minimum enrollment = 3 students)

STRENGTH & STAMINA with Claire Coder (All levels)
MONDAYS, 6:30-7:15pm (Except for 1st Mondays)
Fall Session #1: 9/18
Downtown: Galbreath Pavilion, 39 E State St.
Get motivated by self-starter & entrepreneur, Claire Coder, as she coaches you through a high energy workout! Join us every Monday in the studio for her strength & endurance series set to pop jams. Focus on muscle building, toning, and cardio exercises in this 45 minute workout class. Glisten alongside fellow adults of all levels, as we work to get stronger together. (Conditioning class will not perform on 10/21)
